    Following various inputs by the members of Milk SA (Milk Producers' Organisation and SAMPRO) as well as the Dairy Standard Agency over the past two years on the revision of Regulation 2581 and following a series of consultation between the organised dairy industry and the Department of Agriculture, a final draft regulation was put forward to the department for consideration prior to publication for public comment.

    Milk SA was recently invited by the Department of Agriculture to join them in a school milk event. The event took place on 12 October and presented an exciting programme at the Directorate Veterinary Services of the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. The CEO of Milk SA, Nico Fouché, and members of the Consumer Education project team, explained the very interesting nature of the Milk SA project to department officials and involved their schoolgoing children in a playful way.

    The Consumer Education Project is a Milk SA initiative that aims to communicate health and nutritional messages regarding dairy products to consumers and health professionals in South Africa. A comprehensive market survey was conducted in 2007 by Markinor, which indicated that although dairy is consumed by most South Africans, consumers have misconceptions and a lack of knowledge on the role of dairy in the diet.
